Monday Musings - Just The Facts Ma'am, Just The Facts

These are difficult times. Even the wisdom of Solomon would be put to the test. But one obligation should always remain constant - obedience to God's law.

“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” - Matthew 10:28

"For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?" - Matthew 16:26

In Whom have we placed our trust -  God or man?

Sit in silence before our Lord (if your Church is unlocked), chew on the Scripture passages cited above and then ponder these facts...

We ask medical staff to risk their lives to save the physical lives of the patients in their care while limiting, preventing and or prohibiting priests from assuming the same risk to save their immortal souls.

We close our Churches and prevent souls from praying before the Blessed Sacrament, from offering intercessory prayers, from seeking and receiving spiritual nourishment and strength, but keep our grocery stores and takeout restaurants open to satiate our physical hunger and bodily nourishment.

We prohibit the reception of Holy Communion on the tongue and/or attendance at Mass or the administration of the Sacraments to help reduce the spread of a physical virus, but distribute the Blessed Sacrament silently to tens of thousands of souls living in an objective state of mortal sin without nary a word of caution or any concern for their spiritual well-being and eternal salvation.

We define the killing of a human being in a mother's womb as an essential service, but attendance at Mass, the reception of Holy Communion, the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Last Rites for the dying non-essential.

In Whom have we placed our trust -  God or man? What have we learned from this experience?

These are painful questions to ask - but necessary ones.

PRAYER TO BE PRESERVED FROM SUDDEN DEATH

MOST AMIABLE JESUS "I humbly implore Thee by Thy ignominious Scourging, The Crowning with Thorns, Thy Holy Cross, and by all Thy Goodness, not to permit me to pass out of this world without having received Thy most holy Sacraments." -Prayer of St. Vincent Ferrer

PRAYER OF ST. CATHERINE OF SIENA

"Eternal Father, all things are possible for You. Although You created us without our assistance, You will not save us unless we help. Therefore, I pray You re-create their wills so that they wish for what they do not wish for: I ask this of Your infinite mercy. You have created us out of nothing. Now that we exist have mercy on us. Re-make the vessel which You created in Your own image and likeness. Bring them back to Your grace through the grace and blood of You Son, the beloved Jesus Christ."
