Monday Musings - Praying For Our Enemies

Image
[117] Venerable Fulton J. Sheen  At the very moment when a tree turns against Him and becomes a cross, when iron turns against Him and becomes nails, when roses turn against Him and become thorns, when men turn against Him and become executioners, He lets fall from His lips for the first time in the history of the world a prayer for enemies: ‘Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do’ (Luke 23:34).  (From  The Rainbow of Sorrow ) PAUSE AND PONDER :  Do I find it difficult to forgive those who have sinned against me? If Jesus forgave His executioners, how can I hold on to a grudge or desire for revenge? Do I understand that God will forgive me only to the extent that I have forgiven those who have injured me?                           (Excerpted from  Pondering Tidbits of Truth – Volume 6 )

Pondering Tidbits of Truth is my simple and inadequate way of providing nuggets of spiritual wisdom for you to chew on from time to time. Ven. Fulton J. Sheen "Because kindness is related to love, it follows that the kind person loves another not for the pleasure the other person gives, not because the other person can do us a kindness in return, but because the other person is loveable in himself...To a great extent the world is what we make of it. We get back what we give. If we sow hate, we reap hate; if we scatter love and gentleness, we harvest love and happiness. Other people are like a mirror which reflects back on us the kind of image we cast. The kind person bears with the infirmities of others, never magnifies trifles , and avoids a spirit of fault-finding." (From  Way to Happiness )   Paul Washer "Your children will go to public school and they will be trained for somewhere around 15,000 hours in ungodly secular thought. And then they'll go to S...

Pondering Tidbits of Truth is my simple and inadequate way of providing nuggets of spiritual wisdom for you to chew on from time to time. Ven. Fulton J. Sheen   “In silence there is humility of spirit…In such the ear is more important than the tongue. God speaks…a soul learns Wisdom by being responsive to [God’s] will. The scientist does not tell nature its laws; nature tells the scientist. Man does not tell or impose his will on God; in silence, like Mary, he awaits the Annunciation.” Sheen Institute – Reflection April 8, 2025   Father Jean-Pierre de Caussade, S.J. "The soul that does not attach itself solely to the will of God will find neither satisfaction nor sanctification in any other means, however excellent by which it may attempt to gain them. If that which God Himself chooses for you does not content you, from whom do you expect to obtain what you desire? ...It is only just, therefore, that the soul that is dissatisfied with the divine ac...

Pondering Tidbits of Truth is my simple and inadequate way of providing nuggets of spiritual wisdom for you to chew on from time to time. Peter Kreeft. Ph.D   “What is the best argument for the evangelist to use when telling the Good News? The most effective one is joy. It’s irresistible because it’s what everyone deeply wants. We can put up walls of argument against arguments, but we can’t argue with joy.”   (From The Mystery of Joy )      Venerable Fulton J. Sheen  "If you have never before prayed to Mary, do so now. Can you not see that if Christ himself willed to be physically formed in her for nine months and then be spiritually formed by her for thirty years, it is to her that we must go to learn how to have Christ formed in us? Only she who raised Christ can raise a Christian."   (From Advent Meditations with Fulton J. Sheen )     St. Therese...

Pondering Tidbits of Truth is my simple and inadequate way of providing nuggets of spiritual wisdom for you to chew on from time to time. Ven. Fulton J. Sheen “So long as mercy is available for all who despair of their own confusion and conflicts and inner incompleteness, it follows that sin is never the worst thing that can happen to man. The worst thing is the refusal to recognize his sins. For if we are sinners, there is a Savior. If there is a Savior, there is a Cross. If there is a Cross, there is a way of appropriating it to our own lives and our lives to it. When that is done, despair is driven out and we will have the 'peace which the world cannot give’.” (From the Fulton Sheen Institute - March 17,   2024)   St. M. Faustina Kowalska “[Let] the greatest sinners place their trust in My mercy. They have the right before others to trust in the abyss of My mercy...Souls that make an appeal to My mercy delight Me! To such souls, I grant even more graces than they...
