Eucharistic Reflection - What Does Jesus Do In The Eucharist?

Image
“What does Jesus Christ do in the Eucharist? It is God who, as our Savior, offers Himself each day for us to his Father's justice.  If you are in difficulties and sorrows, He will comfort and relieve you. If you are sick, He will either cure you or give you strength to suffer so as to merit Heaven. If the devil, the world, and the flesh are making war upon you, He will give you the weapons with which to fight, to resist, and to win victory. If you are poor, He will enrich you with all sorts of riches for time and eternity. Let us open the door of His Sacred and adorable Heart, and be wrapped about for an instant by the flames of His love, and we shall see what a God who loves us can do. O my God, who shall be able to comprehend?” St. John Vianney

Eucharistic Reflection - Don't Stay Away

Image
…For sinners, the door of His heart is always open, so that He will never drive them away, however miserable they may be.   He so earnestly desired the salvation of sinners that He did not cease until He was nailed to a cross between two thieves and shed His Precious Blood for them. Not content with this, having finished the course of His earthly life, He instituted this Sacrament [the Eucharist] by which He might remain among men, so that all who need a remedy would always find it. The same cause that led Him to die for sinners, led Him to institute this Sacrament. It was love that brought Him down to earth and put Him in the hands of sinners; it is love also that brings Him back again and puts Him in the same hands. There was no other cause for this Great work but love on His part and need on our part. Therefore, this Sacrament is a common remedy for the just and for sinners.   This is what they do not understand who stay away from this Sacrament. They do not realize tha...

Eucharistic Reflection - Let Him Live and Abide In You

Image
"In the Eucharist, this divine Heart governs us and loves us by living and abiding with us, so that we may live and abide in Him, because in this Sacrament... He offers and gives Himself to us as victim, companion, viaticum, and the pledge of future glory." Pope Benedict XV

Eucharistic Reflection - Listen to His Heartbeats!

Image
"Long ago and far away, an ordinary man called John laid his head on the breast of Christ and listened to the heartbeats of the Lord. Who can venture to guess what that man felt as he heard the beat of that mighty heart? None of us can ever be in his place but all of us could hear - if we would but listen - the heartbeats of God, the song of love that He sings to us, who He has loved so much. If we but meditated on the Most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist, we would not only hear His heartbeats, we would hear our own hearts beating in unison with His. We would be united with our Lord and our God. God's heart is the only true resting place for all of us, the real oasis to which God calls us. But the key to His heart is identification with Him and with all those He calls His little ones. This deep love of humanity requires an enlargement of heart that is so great that we could not aspire to it unless God showed us the way. We must pray for that enlargement of heart." (Servan...

Eucharistic Reflection - His Most Loving Heart

Image
(Photo©Michael Seagriff) "Saint Margaret Mary received the revelation of the Sacred Heart before the Blessed Sacrament exposed. Jesus manifested Himself to her in the Host, holding His Heart in His hands and saying to her these adorable words, the most eloquent commentary on His Presence in the Blessed Sacrament: 'Behold this Heart which has so loved men'." (St. Peter Julian Eymard from In the Light of the Monstrance )

Eucharistic Reflection - A Prayer Before The Blessed Sacrament by Alphonsus Liguori

Image
A helpful way to begin your time in Adoration: (Photo©Michael Seagriff)   My LORD Jesus Christ, Who because of Your love for men remain night and day in the Blessed Sacrament, full of pity and of love, awaiting, calling and welcoming all who come to visit You, I believe that You are present here on the altar. I adore You, and I thank You for all the graces You have bestowed on me, especially for having given me Yourself in this Sacrament, for having given me Your most holy Mother Mary to plead for me, and for having called me to visit You in this church. I now salute Your most loving Heart, and that for three ends: first, in thanksgiving for this great gift; secondly, to make amends to You for all the outrages committed against You in this Sacrament by Your enemies; thirdly, I intend by this visit to adore You in all the places on earth in which You are present in the Blessed Sacrament and in which You are least honored and most abandoned.

She was devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and spent her life promoting devotion to It and to Him. Sadly, in our busyness, many of us skipped by this special remembrance without much thought or reflection - just as we often pass by our waiting Lord. Sometime today or during this weekend, let us pause and ponder the insight of this loving servant, the majestic Gift of His Sacred Heart and His Presence here among us.] We must know the love of Christ which surpasses all knowledge  ...

Worth Revisiting - How Few There Really Are

We thank Allison Gingras at  Reconciled To You   and Elizabeth Riordan at  Theology Is A Verb   for  hosting Catholic bloggers at Worth   Revisiting .  It is a privilege for us to share our work with them and their followers . Stop by for a visit now .  Here is my contribution this week: Monday Musings - How Few There Really Are (Originally published on August 28, 2017) We often forget that Jesus told His disciples: “If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me" (Mt. 16:24). The next time we try to run away from this command, let us recall the following reflection: "...There is no health of soul nor hope of eternal life but in the Cross. The more the flesh is brought down by affliction, the more is the spirit strengthened by interior grace. We are not exhorted to pray for the Cross, but we may and ought to pray for a...
