Tidbits of Truth
is my simple and inadequate way of providing nuggets of spiritual wisdom for
you to chew on from time to time.
St. Paul of the Cross
“Do not live any longer in yourself, but let Jesus
Christ live in you in such a way that the virtue of this Divine Savior may be
resplendent in all your actions, in order that all may see in you a true
portrait of the Crucified and sense the sweetest fragrance of the holy virtues
of the Lord, in interior and exterior modesty, in patience, in gentleness,
suffering, charity, humility, and in all others that follow.”
(From Flowers of the Passion-Thoughts of St. Paul
of the Cross)
Venerable Fulton J. Sheen
“Why are those who are notoriously undisciplined and
unmoral are also most contemptuous of religion and morality? They are trying to
solace their own unhappy lives by pulling the happy down to their own abysmal
depths.”
(From Seven Words of Jesus and Mary: Lessons from
Cana and Calvary)
St. Alphonsus Liguori
“In the first place,
without mental prayer the soul is without light. They, says St. Augustine, who
keep their eyes shut cannot see the way to their country. The eternal truths
are all spiritual things that are seen, not with eyes of the body, but with the
eyes of the mind; that is, by reflection and consideration. Now, they who do
not make mental prayer do not see these truths, neither do they see the
importance of eternal salvation, and the means which they can adopt in order to
obtain it.”
(From Mental Prayer)
