Pondering Tidbits of Truth
is my simple and inadequate way of providing nuggets of spiritual wisdom for
you to chew on from time to time.
Father Anthony J. Paone, S.J.
Man’s earthly life is full of
miseries and crosses. Wherever you turn, you will find a cross. If you carry it
willingly, you will find greater strength in the cross, and it will lead you
towards Heaven. If you bear it unwillingly, you only make it a greater burden
than it already is; and you still have to bear it. One who runs away from the cross
is only running toward another cross, perhaps a heavier one. There is no other
road to Heaven except the way of the cross. No man can escape his cross.”
(From My Daily Bread)
Meister Eckhart
“You will have peace to the extent that you have God, and the further you
are away from God the less you will be at peace…Thus you may measure your
progress with God by measuring your peace or the lack of it.”
(From Saving Wisdom: Theology in the Christian
University by Brian W. Hughes)
St. Alphonsus Rodriguez
“The
principal thing upon which we have to turn our attention, that we may mortify
it and eradicate if from our hearts, is the predominant passion – that is, the
affection, inclination, vice, or bad habit which reigns most in us, which makes
us its captive, which brings us into greatest danger, and most frequently
causes us to fall into grave transgressions. When the king is taken, the battle
is won. And until we do this, we shall make no great advance in perfection.”

by A Member of the Order of Mercy)
