Pondering
Tidbits of Truth
is my simple and inadequate way of providing nuggets of spiritual wisdom for
you to chew on from time to time.
St. Augustine
"Accordingly,
this seems to me to be one principal reason why the good are chastised along
with the wicked, when God is pleased to visit with temporal punishments the
profligate manners of a community. They are punished together, not because they
have spent an equally corrupt life, but because the good as well as the wicked,
though not equally with them, love this present life; while they ought to hold
it cheap, that the wicked, being admonished and reformed by their example,
might lay hold of life eternal."
(From the City of God)
St. Leonard of Port Maurice
"To be
saved for all eternity, to be damned for all eternity, and to not make your every
effort to avoid the one and make sure of the other, is something
inconceivable."
(From The Little Number of Those Who Are Saved)
Jean Mouroux
"When man
has become Christian, he finds entrance to a new mystery. He is born a second
time and of God Himself, he has become a member of Christ, possessed of eternal
life, he is the temple of the Holy Spirit, 'signed upon' and consecrated even
as to his body, he participates the life of the Society which links the Father,
the Son, and the Spirit in the bonds of Infinite Love. Thereby he is rapt away
into the holiness of God, and by this contact with the divine fire he becomes
even more of a holy thing than before, because God Himself now dwells within
him; because in the eyes of the Father and in reality he is indeed another
Christ; because he is thus taken out of the whole order of things profane, and
is destined to glorify God in his soul and in his body till the Glory Itself
shall consume him forever…Be mindful of your dignity, you who call yourself Christian!"
