Pondering Tidbits of Truth - October 31, 2024

Pondering Tidbits of Truth is my simple and inadequate way of providing nuggets of spiritual wisdom for you to chew on from time to time. Father Jose Gonzalez " Reflect upon the scenario in which you were supposed to receive a very large inheritance but were cheated out of it. How would you react? The right reaction would be to care more for the soul of the person who cheated you than to care about actually being cheated. A person who is fully detached from material possessions will care little about losing such an inheritance or gaining one. It will truly matter not. If that is hard to accept, know that this is a sign that your soul is too attached to the things of this world. Pray for freedom from all greed. That is the only way to obtain the true riches of God." (From  Daily Reflections  - October 21, 2024)   St. Teresa of Calcutta "How did Christ love us? He made Himself the Bread of Life. He made Himself a living bread that you and I may eat and live. He made himse...

We thank Allison Gingras at  Reconciled To You  and Elizabeth Riordan at  Theology Is A Verb   for hosting Worth Revisiting each week. It is a privilege to share our work with them and their followers . Here is my contribution:  Monday Musings - Do You Really Love God? (Originally posted on December 3, 2018) Dr. Peter Kreeft - teacher and author extraordinaire -  is one of those gifted men blessed with the ability to answer complicated philosophical and theological truths with just a handful of words.  Let me illustrate this point by sharing the following two sentence paragraph excerpted from his book, Christianity for Modern Pagans , a commentary and explanation of  Blaise Pascal's classic, Pensees: "Here is a test whether you really love God.   Pondering Tidbits of Truth is my simple and inadequate way of providing nuggets of spiritual wisdom for you to chew on from time to time . Catherine Doherty, Servant of God “A person in love with God is always on the alert to make friends, make a friend – not for any ulterior motive but just because friendship is the fruit of Christian love. A stranger is only a friend I haven’t met yet.”  ( From Poustinia ) Dr. Peter Kreeft “We can consider him [Jesus Christ in every person and in ourselves] because he really is there. He is in his whole Body as your soul is in your whole body. We really do meet and touch and help or harm Christ in our neighbors. If we lived this one thought, we would convert and transform the world.” (From Christianity for Modern Pagans – Pascal’s Pensees ) St. Catherine of Siena "He will provide the way and the means, such as you could never have imagined. Leave it all to ...

(Photo©Michael Seagriff) Pondering Tidbits of Truth is my simple and inadequate way of providing nuggets of spiritual wisdom for you to chew on from time to time .  Dr. Peter Kreeft “To care is even more important than to know, for it is the only way to know the most important thing: yourself, your soul, your identity, your purpose, your destiny and your immortality. If we are indifferent instead of seeking, we simply will not find, that is, we will not be saved. Hell is not populated mainly by passionate rebels but nice, bland, indifferent, respectable people who simply never gave a damn.” (From Christianity For Modern Pagans ) St. Alphonsus de Liguori “God is merciful. Who denies it? But, great as His mercy is, how many does He every day send to hell? God is merciful, but He is also just, and is, therefore, obliged to punish those who offend Him. And ‘His mercy,’ says the divine mother, extends ‘to them that fear him’. (Luke 1:...
