Pondering Tidbits of Truth - April 21, 2016
Pondering Tidbits of Truth is my simple and inadequate way of providing nuggets
of spiritual wisdom for you to chew on from time to time.
Blessed Henry Suso, O.P.
"Lord, some
complain that you give them suffering. Ah. Blessed is that suffering which
unites the soul to you. Lord, my cherished Spouse, a pure soul finds such
delight in one spiritual embrace from you that she forgets all suffering…"
(From The Exemplar: Life and Writings of
Blessed Henry Suso, OP Vol. Two)
"The
temptations of our Lord are also the temptations of his servants individually.
But the scale of them, naturally, is different; the devil is not going to offer
you and me all the kingdoms of the world. He knows his market; offers, like a
good salesman, just as much as he thinks his customer will take. I suppose he
thinks, with some justice, that most of us could be had for five thousand a
year, and a great many of us for much less. Nor does he, to us, propose his
conditions so openly; his offer comes to us wrapped up in all sorts of
plausible shapes. But if he sees the chance he is not slow to point out to you
and to me how we could get the thing we want if we would be untrue to our
better selves, and not infrequently if we would be untrue to our Catholic
loyalties."
(From Pastoral Sermons)
St. Augustine
"There
is no sin so slight that does not become greater when neglected. For one should
not consider the fault committed, but Him Who was offended: that God so good,
so merciful, and so holy."
(From
Instructions For Novices by Blessed Hyacinthe-Marie Cormier, O.P.)
These are so good. Especially the middle one.
ReplyDeleteThe spiritual treasures in our Church, as you know Anne, are almost limitless. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
ReplyDeleteIt i so important that we teach our children about how to have the qualities of compassion, kindness, and forgiveness. These qualities are what it takes to be truly happy, joyful, and content in life. It must be the churches that help instill these qualities. We already support our churches through tithing but through fundraisers and programs like cell phones 4 churches we can support our churches in a way that allows them to obtain the resources that are necessary to educate our children and youth. If they can understand and learn these qualities before they are thrown into the World the better off they will be.
